A technically difficult climbing peak in Everest Region, Cholatse Peak 6440m is also popular as Jobo Lhaptshan among climbers. Climbing Cholatse with us is an extension of the scenic Gokyo Cho La Pass Trek. Nestling within the Mahalangur Himalayan Range of the Everest Region, the peak caters dramatically wonderful vistas of Himalayan giants like Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Lhotse Shar, Makalu, Baruntse, and Ama Dablam among others.
Though Cholatse Peak is just a 6000m plus mountain, it is technically a tasking climbing peak and hence is recommended for those climbers who are known to ice and rock climbing along with rope skills. It is absolutely not for beginners. The highlights of the Cholatse Peak Climbing adventure are the cultural and natural wonders of the Khumbu & Gokyo Valleys. Crossing over Cho La Pass is yet another challenging section of the trip.

Day 1: Arrival day in Kathmandu (Altitude: 1,300m/4,264 ft. Meal: Dinner)+
On your arrival in Kathmandu International Airport, one of our representative will pick up you and escort you to the hotel as well as help you to check-in at hotel. After your refreshment, you will be briefed about the next day trip. In the evening, we, the Hiking Nepal will offer you a welcome dinner introducing Nepalese cuisine and culture.
Day 2: Rock Climbing Course in Kathmandu (Altitude: 1,300m/4,264 ft. Meal: Breakfast)+
Today, you will be taken to natural rock climbing spot. Just driving 3 km away from hotel you stay, you will reach at the spot where you will be taking part in a climbing course before departure to Lukla. A day course will provide excellent opportunities to learn how to use rope, harness, Ice axe, crampons although keeps you physical fitness. After day rock climbing, you will drive back to Hotel. Remaining time, you can involve yourself in personal shopping and make ready your luggage.
Day 3: Fly to Lukla, trek to Phakding (Altitude: 2840/ 9372 ft. Phakding: 2610 m/8612 ft. Flight: 30 minutes Trek: 3/4 hrs. Meal: BLD)+
On a clear bright morning, you will fly over the snowcapped mountains to one of the most electrifying high altitude airports, Lukla at an altitude 2900 m. Your guides and porters will accompany you here for the trek. Hence, the trekking adventure kicks off. Beginning the trek, you will slide down almost 500 meters to Dudh Koshi River. Then, the trek winds along the trial beside the River towards Phakding. Passing several mani-walls and boulders engraved with Buddhist prayers, you will arrive at Phakding where you will spend your first night of your trek.
Day 4: Trek to Namche Bazar (Altitude; 3440 m/11352 ft. Trek: 5/6 hrs. Meal: BLD)+
The trek chases the northern trial up the Dudh Kosi valley to Monjo. At Monjo the trek officially enters Sagarmatha National Park where you have to issue Sagarmatha National Park Permit Card. Continuing the trial along the steep uphill climb while savoring the first glimpse of Everest, you will arrive at the hub of Sherpa- Namche Bazaar. Spend overnight at lodge.
Day 5: Rest day for acclimatization (Altitude; 3440 m/11352 ft. Meal: BLD)+
It is a day to acclimatize you with higher elevation. On this day, you can go for a short hike to Khumjung, a beautiful settlement of Hospitable Sherpas. OR, you can roam around the Namche that offers Internet Cafes, restaurants, ATMs, and colorful markets. Even, you can enjoy the traditional living of mountain dwellers that is getting complimentary by the awe-inspiring surrounding and high altitude flora/fauna. Spend overnight at lodge.
Day 6: Trek to Dole (Altitude: 4200 m/13860 ft. Trek 5-6 hrs. Meal: BLD)+
Today, you will climb the Khumjung hill and descend to the east of the village down the broad valley leading to the Dudh Koshi from where the route turns north. Treading to the ridge top that stretches down from Mt. Khumbila, which is manifested by a beautiful “Chorten”, you will begin to explore Mohang. It is the birth place of the reincarnated revered monk of Rongbuk Monastery of Tibet, who has flourish Tibetan Buddhism in Khumbu and neighboring regions. Beyond, Mohang, you will slide down along the series sheer switchbacks on sandy slope to Dush Koshi Riverbed. Crossing a Dole Check Post of National Park at Tenga, you will reach to Dole, a small village that lies at the riverside. Spend overnight at lodge.
Day 7: Trek to Machhermo (Altitude: 4,470 m/14750 ft. Trek: 4-5 hrs. Meal: BLD)+
Your trek from Dole begins with a steep uphill climb to Machhermo. The trail today passes beautiful villages- Labarma and Luza, then the trail gets easier passing through small other villages and summer settlements. Following the valley above the Dudh Koshi, you will enter to the small settlements with few tea- houses called as Macchermo. Spend overnight at Lodge.
Day 8: Trek to Gokyo (Altitude: 4,800 m/15840 ft. Trek: 4-5 hrs. Meal: BLD)+
Today the trek begins with uphill walk to a ridge that caters fantastic view. From the ridge top, the deep valley Kantega down and towering Cho Oyu 8153m above are eye-feasting sights. From the ridge top you tread along the widened valley and cross Phangga- pass, where 40 people during 1995 avalanche lost their lives. Sliding down to the riverbed and then chasing along the steep trail via the terminal moraine of the Ngazumpa Glacier, arrive to a stream. Crossing the stream on a small iron bridge, tread along the leveled trail and arrive to first Lake Longpongo, at 4690 m. Soon you will sight the second lake Taujung Tsho. A short walk from second lake brings to the third lake called Gokyo Tsho. The famous village of Gokyo sits just above the lake with an amazing backdrop of Mt. Cho-Oyu. You will have lunch & post lunch set out to explore Dudh Pokhari. Overnight in lodge.
Day 9: Morning Excursion to Gokyo Ri, Trek to Thagnak (Altitude: Gokyo Ri: 5483m/18094 ft. Thagnak: 4700 m/15510 ft. Trek: 4/5 hrs. Meal: BLD)+
Today, you will begins your journey early morning to Gokyo-Ri, an ideal vantage point to sight extremely the beautiful vistas of Everest and its closest neighbor. Spending some valuable time, retrace back to Gokyo to trek to next spot. You trek across the Ngazumpa Glacier to the mountain on the other side of Gokyo Valley. Then, walking along the ridge of the mountain you will enter into Thagnak. Spend overnight at lodge.
Day 10: Trek to Cho La pass 5,367m to Dzongla (4830 m): 7 - 8 hours (Altitude: Cho-la pass: 5330 m/17589 ft. Dzongla: 4830 m/15939 ft. Trek: 6/7 hrs. Meal: BLD)+
Today will be a long day of your trek and required a bit technical, as you will be crossing the pass. The presence of steep glacial section on the east makes this pass a technically demanding walk. Ice covered rocks make day’s trek tricky with slippery attributes. Beginning the trek, we walk through rocky ravine to the top of the pass, which is marked by fluttering prayer flags and chortens. The pointed Ama Dablam along with Cholatse soars Lobuche East and Baruntse are extremely beautiful vistas from the top. Now traversing across some crevasses we arrive to Dzongla Village. Spend overnight at lodge.
Day 11: Trek to Gorekshep, excursion to Everest Base Camp and back to Gorekshep (Altitude: EBC: 5357m/17678 ft. Gorekshep: 5140 m/16960 ft. Trek: 6/7 hrs. Meal: BLD)+
It is the most interesting and challenging day of this trip as day starts with a mixture of excitement and anxiety. Today, you will hike up to the Everest base camp at an altitude of 5364 m. You will headed through the horizontal moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. On the way to Gorekshep, you will witness the north ridge of Mt. Everest, Mt. pumori, Mt. Mahalangur, Mt. Nuptse and many more. Further climbing through the Changri Glacier, you can have first glimpse of Kalapatthar. You will stop at Gorekshep for a lunch; then continue to walk for your ultimate destination- the Everest Base Camp. The splendid views of the mountains and scenarios makes the journey livelier, even snubbing all the tiresome walk in the steep route. The trail will last for approximately 3 hours from Gorekshep. Once you reach at base camp, you can actually see the deadliest route to the Everest that make the journey more adventurous. You will get to spend quality time exploring the base camp and surrounding areas and return to Gorak Shep to spend the night.
Day 12: Excursion to Kalapatthar and Trek to Cholatse Base Camp (Altitude: Kalapatthar: 5550 m/18315 ft. Cholatse BC: 5355 m/17670 ft. Trek: 7/8 hrs. Meal: BLD)+
Next to Everest Base camp, this day is too exciting and adventurous hiking to Kalapatthar. You will get an early morning call from our guide to get ready to hike first at Kalapatthar. The reason is to catch the sparkling yellowish snowcapped over the mountains especially Mt. Everest by the strike of every rays during sunrise. Every second become an exciting moments of lifetime; well, don’t forget to capture in camera. Explore and experience the extreme elevation and retrace your path back to Cholatse Base Camp. Spend overnight at Camp.
Day 13: Day 13 to Day 15: Preparation Day+
From here, you will required to be more focused and learn some climbing technique letting you familiarized with the altitude. Hence, it is better to stay at Base Camp. You will learn come climbing techniques and hike to the nearest destination to walk up and stay at low land for acclimatize you properly with the altitude. You will spend your overnights in the tented camp.
Day 16: Day 16 and Day 17: Trek to High Camp+
After staying three days in Base Camp, you will now get ready to climb up to High Camp. Here, you will climb up undertaking climbing trainings and learn enough climbing skills from the expert Climbing guides before you make the final ascent to Cholatse Summit. You will be staying at the tented camp and eat Sherpa cooked foods.
Day 18: Summit Cholatse Peak, back to Cholatse Base Camp (Altitude: 6501m/21453 ft. Trek: 7/8 hrs. Meal: BLD)+
Wake up early morning at around 0200 hrs. to get ready with all gears and equipment, you will starts walking in the glaciers following climbing guide. With strenuous climbing along the rocky and snowcapped trails, you will find yourself in the most dramatic edge of Cholatse Peak. Enjoy the success with some clicks along the background of skyline Himalayas surrounds you. Spending valuable time, you will retrace back you journey descending down very carefully from summit to the base camp. Spend overnight at Tented Camp.
Day 19: Trek to Pangboche (Altitude: 3930 m/12970 ft. Trek: 5/6 hrs. Meal: BLD)+
After you successful climbing, you will descend down towards Pangboche entering the Imja River valley. Here, you can visit Pangboche Monastery that is believed to be the oldest monastery of Khumbu built by Lama Syange Dorjee who has even introduce the concept of Buddhism in the Himalayas during 17th century. You will spend your night at local lodges.
Day 21: Trek to Namche (Altitude: 3440 m/11352 ft. Trek: 4/5 hrs. Meal: BLD)+
You will just walk ups and downs descending through the hillside beautified with the rhododendron and Juniper crossing the bridge over the Dudh Koshi River towards Tengboche. You can view fascinating mountains like- Ama Dablam (6856 m), Kangtega (6685 m), Thamserku (6608 m), Lhotse (8414 m), Everest (8848 m). Once you reach pine forest, you can see verities of wild animals and birds including mountain goats. At Phunki Tenga, you can explore the water driven prayer wheel. Then, you will reach Namche Bazzar. Overnight at local lodges.
Day 22: Trek to Lukla (Altitude: 2840/ 9372 ft. Trek: 4/5 hrs. Meal: BLD)+
Today will be the final day at Everest. You will follow the Dudh Koshi River down to Lukla. You will cross several wooden suspension bridge and villages including monasteries while reaching Lukla. Once you reach at Lukla, you can plan for evening celebration with guides and porters, even taste local beer (Chang), enjoy party beating legs on Sherpa Dance steps.
Day 23: Fly to Kathmandu (Altitude: 1350/4428 ft. Flight: 30 minutes Meal: B/D)+
You will board a plane back to Kathmandu. Arriving at Kathmandu you will be transferred to your hotel and rest of the day will be your leisure time. You can go for shopping, message, or rest at Hotel. Evening time, we invite you for farewell dinner at authentic restaurant. You can share your experience, feedback us and give us a chance to make your evening a wonderful time. Overnight at Hotel.
Day 23: Departure Transfer (Altitude: 1350/4428 ft. Meal: B)+
Spending nearly a week with us, now it’s a time to wish you a wonderful journey to onwards destination. Our driver will take you to the International Airport to drop you after check-out from the Hotel.

Nepal Visa & Getting in to Nepal
All the foreign nationals (except Indian nationals) are required to display Visa while entering Nepal. Nepalese Visa can be obtained either at Nepalese Embassy of respective country or can be obtained during your arrival at the International Airport in Kathmandu or from the Nepal’s border entry point. However, certain nationals are requested to arrange Visa prior to arrival in Nepal. The listed countries are- Afghanistan, Iraq, Cameroon, Ghana, Somalia, Swaziland, Palestine, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Ethiopia and Liberia and cannot secure Nepalese Visa on arrival.

For group, we normally run with minimum 2 person to maximum 10 in our published group departure program. However, there is no barrier for a private trip. We can run a trip for single person and even more than 10 in a group. Normally for a group, we provide 1 main guide, 1 assistance guide along with 1 porter for every 2 trekkers. Moreover, for every additional 2 trekkers, 1 more assistance and a porter will be provided making a team combination as follows:

Meals and Accommodations
During your stay in Kathmandu, we accommodate you in 3 star category hotel in a comfortable and relaxing environment. Breakfast is included with room accommodation. Normally, based on your group size, you will be accommodated in twin or triple sharing basis. In case of single room stay in a group, you will require to pay single supplement charge mentioned in our trip cost. Also, if you wish to upgrade hotel accommodation, we can accommodate you in respective hotels with surcharge.
On your arrival in Kathmandu and a day before your departure for homeland, we Hiking Nepal Team will invite you for Welcome and Farewell dinner. You will be taken to an authentic restaurant serving Nepali Cuisine with some cultural Dance Show. For your other day’s meals, you can get hygienic restaurants providing verities of taste including continental, Chinese, Italian, Nepalese and many more.
Similarly, for your stay during trek, we shall accommodate you in local lodge available en-route. Normally, the rooms are basic and in a twin sharing basis. Some lodges offer shower system and hot water. For meals, you will be served sufficient hygienic food. Our service includes a full board meals (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Tea/Coffee) based on lodge menu. Normally, for breakfast; porridge, cereals, toast or chapattis, omelets and a range of hot drinks are served. Likewise for Lunch and Dinner; you can taste some Nepalese food (esp. rice, lentils and curry), Sherpa food, Indian food, Italian Spaghetti, noodles, potatoes, even Pizza in some areas. It is obvious that you will receive fresh and organic food in the Himalayas of Nepal. Your breakfast and dinner will be served in lodge where you stay and lunch on the way during trek.
Trip Safety; our Guide and Supporting Team
Once, you confirm your trip, it is our responsibility to make your trip wonderful without creating any difficulties. Hence, we have prepared our itinerary in such a way that it will properly acclimatize you. Also, we request you in advance to have regular exercises and make habits to walk in a daily basis. Similarly, during trek, you will be fully guided by our professional trekking guides and supporting team. They are properly trained in regards to safety and first aid. Even, we have every set up in case of emergency such as high altitude medicine and Gammow Bag (High altitude Chamber bag). Please note High altitude Chamber Bag is used to provide heat in your body and it is available on certain cost. Moreover, to let you familiar with altitude, you are suggested to walk slow and steady and ensure for proper acclimatization.
For trekking, we provide local experienced guide speaking fluent English and familiar with the local routes, landscape, flora, fauna as well as culture, and tradition of certain areas and let you feel comfortable. We do not encourage for child labor, hence, our porter will be above 16 years that are living in the Himalayas of Nepal; as well as carries only 20-22 kg weight per porter. Normally, the guide and support teams are selected with proper analyzing of their experience, leadership skills and personal aptitude. Our guides are well familiar with different societies of all caste and customs along the trail and share the insight culture with you that are not even noted in guide book.
To make our staffs more fluent and experienced, we consistently provide trainings. They have been participating in special training programs like Trekking guide training, Rock climbing, Ice climbing, Intensive Wilderness first Aid and many more that has been certified and approved by Nepal Government.
Best Season for Tour
For Tour in Nepal, you can travel whole year and every season display different scenarios. However, it is wise to know about climatic season. Normally, 2 season are considered best: Spring and autumn and season is categories in 4 different climatic seasons:
Spring (March, April, May):
During this time, temperature is mildly warm in low lands while moderate in higher altitudes with plenty of opportunities to have astonishing views of the mountains and landscape. At this time, the blossom flowers especially national flower of Nepal – rhododendron decorate the ascending altitudes with its generous color and beauty. Even the High altitude lodges get opened and get occupied with the mountain lovers.
Summer (June, July, and August):
This is also the monsoon season in Nepal. At this time, the weather is hot and wet at times. It rains almost every day with occasional thunderstorms in the evening. The rain spreads the pleasantness around with lush green vegetation. If you are planning to trek in this season, we suggest to choose rain shaded areas of Nepal. Even, if you do not mind rain, and wants to trek in this season, you should compulsorily bring umbrella, pancho, proper waterproof hiking boots, wind proof jackets, baggage wrap, and raincoat as well as required insect repellent. Likewise, the reward of this month is the view of lush green valley captured by small flowers. It is a wonderful time to observe monsoon cycle of agriculture and the traditional life of Nepalese people.
Autumn (September, October and November):
This time is considered to be the best tourist season in Nepal with the end of summer and the winter to set in. The weather is highly pleasant so are the mountain views. The trekking routes get beautified with the presence of trekkers and expedition groups. Meantime, most of the festivals of Nepalese societies are enthusiastically celebrated at this time.
Winter (December, January and February):
During this time, the weather is cool and the sky is clear with occasional snowfalls at higher elevations. At this time, trekking in lower elevation is fine however, at the high altitude, most of the lodges get closed and it will be a bit difficult to cross high altitude passes. This season is good for trekking in lower elevations. The morning and night get extreme cold sometime reaching temperature at (-) minus but the days are warm and pleasant.
Travel Insurance:
While travelling to Nepal, you are requested to have a travel insurance that should cover any comprehensive expenses possible to acquire due to medical issues or accidents. Especially, your travel insurance must protect air ambulance, treatment charges, rescue and evacuation, product cancellation and refundable charges, flight delay and cancellations. We suggest you to bring you travel insurance certificate or send us scan copy and required to issue from your home land and we do not arrange or sell insurance.
Travelling in the Himalayas is full of adventurous; hence it is wise to choose a proper insurance policy. While choosing your insurance policy, make sure that it will protect all such unforeseen expenses. Your insurer should be well familiar with our itinerary that you have booked and must have agreed to cover all activities being undertaken during trip. Meantime, it is not compulsory that our all the assigned trip are facilities with Heli-rescue. You will not require heli rescue insurance for Tibet Tour as it is not possible to provide such facility.
Vaccination
It is better to follow the precaution given by World Health Organization and other international health related institutions that recommend having vaccines before travelling Nepal to prevent from certain fatal illness. If possible, we suggest you to bring your medical certificate however, it is not required to show but for safety. The recommended vaccines are polio, Diphtheria, Tetanus, typhoid, yellow fever, hepatitis A/B, Influenza (Flu), Japanese encephalitis, and Tuberculosis. Meantime, it is better to consult your professional doctor about your travel and he might recommend you properly. You can also take suggestion of local travelers who have travelled Nepal before and know more about the required precautions. Please note that the protection that can be gained from vaccines varies from 50% to almost 100%. High Altitude Sickness

Hence, proper rest is required at that altitude. You can cure at right time knowing certain symptoms of Altitude Sickness. Common symptoms are headache, loss of appetite, tiredness and nausea, vomiting, dizziness and difficulty in sleeping.
