ACCOMMODATION IN EVEREST BASE CAMP TREK
Everest Base Camp Trek

Many travelers travel to Nepal with an aim to trek to the Base Camp of the highest mountain of the world, Mt. Everest. It is one of the glorious and popular trekking destinations in Nepal as it offers the closest view of the mighty Everest. As in other trips, accommodation is one of the most important aspects that you need to consider whenever you travel to Everest Base Camp (EBC). Because the sun eventually sets and you’ll need a place to rest and lay your head down for the day! Therefore you need to be well prepared for what to expect when it comes to accommodation during the journey. The trail to Everest Base Camp provides a wide range of accommodation facilities. Various types of accommodations that suit all budgets- cheap to luxurious – are available throughout the trail. So, accommodation is not a problem but it’s always a good idea to know about the accommodation facilities available before heading towards this thrilling adventure.

Hotel / Lodges accommodation

Everest Base Camp Trek is very popular among all the trekkers so the accommodation services available have been improved a lot over time. You can find luxurious hotels even at the high altitude. Though the services are not as luxurious as in sophisticated urban areas but you will be served with the facilities that can be called more than comfortable. The rooms are of wide size with comfortable beds, electrical blankets, hot water shower, attached bathroom and free Wi-Fi services. These rooms are bit expensive and fewer trekkers are interested in staying at these kinds of places. You can find such hotels/lodges in Lukla, Monjo, Namche etc.

Tea House Accommodation

Tea House accommodation in EBC Trek is one of the common forms of trekking accommodation. They are designed to provide basic facilities for the trekkers to rest. The rooms might not be luxurious but comfortable enough. They provide you with the basic accommodation facilities like twin sharing beds with blankets and some basic furniture in some rooms. The rooms normally do not have attached bathrooms. They provide you hot water for shower with extra charge. Tea houses are built and managed by the local villagers.

Camping Accommodation

Camping is another possible form of accommodation during EBC Trek. Mostly the expedition team uses this form of accommodation while climbing peaks or trekking through the remote areas. In camping accommodation, the tents are used for sleeping and a team of staffs look after your food and other facilities. Since there is easy access to tea houses, camping is generally not preferred by the trekkers during EBC trek. As this form of accommodation uses more resources and labor, it’s not considered a very responsible form of travel. And it’s very expensive as well. So, camping is preferred only if there are no other options available. Trekking in the Himalayas is always adventurous and strenuous. During the EBC Trek also you have to walk for 6-8 hours each day which is tiring. So, a comfortable and warm bed to sleep and rest at the end of the day is must. As the EBC is a popular destination, it can be difficult to find suitable accommodation during the peak seasons. So, if you are planning to travel during autumn and spring, sometime you may have to compromise with the services available.
