A MONTH LONG FAST HAS COME TO AN END CELEBRATING “EID- AL – FITR”.

“Wish you all; a happy and prosperous Ed-Al-Fitr” “Ed Mubarak” Eid-Al-Fitr, is an important festival of Muslim Community and celebrated as “the New Year”. This festival is celebrated at the end of ninth month of Islamic Calendar, called as Ramadan or Ramazan. The holiest month- Ramazan last for 29/30 days, during which, the Muslims avoid from eating as well as drinking even a drop of water within the daylight time. This time is intended to learn patience, spirituality, humility and submissiveness to God. A month long fasting is called as “Roza” in their local dialect.  The devotees practice learning Quran during the whole month and dedicate most of their time reading “Namaz” as well as pray to the “Allah”.  As soon as the sun sets, the whole day of fast comes to an end after offering their prayers to the Allah. Later the family member gather together and enjoy the scrumptious food prepared. The important practices by the people during Ramadan includes: Fasting from dawn to dusk; Prayer and reading of the Quran; Iftar (fast breaking meal); Sadaqa (charity); Zakat (food offered to the poor); Laylat al- Qadr (the night decree or measures); Eid Ul- Fitr (the end of fasting period of Ramazan). On the auspicious day Eid-Al-Fitr, the people comes to Mosque, congratulate, greet and embrace each other by saying “Id Mubarak” or “Happy Id”. This is a first day of following month, after another new moon has been sighted. The festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm among the family, relatives and community sharing greetings, food and gifts amongst each other.
