TOP 5 OFF THE BEATEN TREKS IN NEPAL

Nepal is known for stunning high Himalayan ranges. Nepal is home to eight tallest mountain including Mt. Everest. Trekking to the root of some of the highest mountain is interest as well as adventurous task. Some popular mountain trails are Everest, Annapurna, Manaslu. Due to Nepal’s diverse landscape, there are numerous routes and trekking destinations that are equally beautiful. In fact, these lesser known routes are more rewarding than the popular trails as they take travelers to the hidden and isolated part of Nepal. The off beaten trekking trails give you the chance to fully be in nature and enjoy the unique culture and remoteness hidden among the giant and mysterious mountains. As the places and the trails are not common and frequented by many, the natural beauty and the culture are intact and offer more memorable trekking experience. Some of the off beaten treks in Nepal are:

Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek

Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek is one of the most adventurous trekkings that takes you around the world’s seventh highest mountain, Dhaulagiri (8167m). The trail is mostly remote and uninhabited. As there are no settlements in the path, one can fully experience camping trek in the wilderness. The exciting and adventurous part of this trek is, reaching Dhaulagiri Base Camp, Italian Base Camp, and getting the close up view of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna massif, Dhampus peak, and Gurja Himal. As the trails are less frequented, you can get an undisturbed Himalayan experience.

Nar Phu Valley Trek

Nar and Phu are two remote villages located north of Annapurna mountain. Trek to Nar Phu Valley is one of the shortest off  beaten treks recently opened for traveling in 2003. Though the trails are developed and opened to travel, very less people trek to this hidden valley adorned with natural and cultural beauty. The trail passes through the rugged wilderness and unique lifestyle of the people away from the modern technology and world. The valley is rich in culture as the people have preserved the ancient Buddhist culture and have very unique dialect, which they still speak. Exploring this rural valley in the middle of nowhere is a unique experience.

Tsum Valley

Tsum Valley is an isolated valley in Manaslu region in the trans-Himalayan northwest of Nepal. Trekking to this valley is a fully off beaten adventure, leading you to the rich and ancient culture well preserved by the local people. All along the trail, you can witness remote villages inhabited by the Tibetan Buddhist especially Tsumba people living in their farmland. Meanwhile, the valley was opened to travelers only after 2008. There you can witness well preserved ancient gompas including the oldest Dhephu Doma Gompa, longest mani walls at Dzong and Phurbe and unique cultural practices that have been followed by generations after generation and untouched by modernity.

Rolwaling Trek

Rolwaling lies in the west of the Khumbu Region. Despite, Rolwaling is close to Everest, it is still remote and untouched. Trekking in this region offers you an opportunity to explore the natural attraction at its raw state and the rich culture in its purest form. Along the trail you can witness the lifestyle of Himalayan settlements. Rolwaling is rich in diverse flora and fauna, mesmerizing landscape and breathtaking mountain views. With its pristine beauty, it provides the best wilderness experience to the adventure lovers in the remote part of Nepal. Rolwaling is a challenging and rewarding trekking destination.

3 Col Trek

The 3 Col trek is the most challenging trekking adventure joining Makalu and Everest region. It takes you to the wildest Himalayas, where only few dare to drift into. This trek is in the complete wilderness for days, and camping is the only option for accommodation. This trek leads to the high altitude passes East Col (6100 m), West Col (6135m) and Ampu Labtsa (5,850m). Besides the extreme adventure, the trail also offers beautiful spectacle of highland settlements, their preserved culture, numerous Buddhist gombas and chortens strewn all over the trail. The trek is for experienced trekkers only.
